Engineered wood is made from a combination of wood planks. There is a solid wood veneer placed on top of the wood to provide a sleek and smooth surface. This type of wood is ideal for homes with pets and children because it is resistant to water damage. This option can often be refinished if something were to damage the surface.
Prefinished vs. Unfinished
A prefinished wood floor is done in the factory when the wood is manufactured. This coating is applied to the wood and dries before it arrives at your home. Once installed, you are able to use this wood flooring right away and you do not have to wait until it is ready. This is ideal for families who are busy or on the go.
An unfinished wood floor comes to your home without any type of finishing product on it. The finish is placed on the flooring once it has been installed in your home. You will not be able to walk on the floor in your home until the finish is completely dry. This is ideal for people who are able to spend some time away from their house to allow the floor to dry.
